Protocols/Standards at various layers of TCP/IP model
As learned in previous lessons, TCP/IP protocol suite consists of many different protocols and standards. Following table describes different protocols and standards operating at different layers of five layered TCP/IP model.
Layer Number | Layer Name | Protocol/Standard |
---|---|---|
Layer 5 | Application Layer | SMTP, HTTP, HTTPS, POP3, SNMP, FTP, SSH, Telnet |
Layer 4 | Transport Layer | TCP (Transmission Control Protocol), UDP (User Datagram Protocol) |
Layer 3 | Network Layer | IPv4, IPv6, ICMP, IGMP, IPSEC, ARP, MPLS |
Layer 2 | Datalink Layer | Ethernet, PPP, Frame Relay, ATM |
Layer 1 | Physical Layer | 10GBase-T, 10GBase-SR, 1000Base-TX, 100BaseTX, 1000BaseSX, 802.11 |
